Icelandic arts festival shows off country’s culture
Liverpool Daily Post - 01/12/2007
An Exhibition of top Icelandic artists and designers is currently on display as part of a festival celebrating the best of the country’s culture.
ICE07 continues today and tomorrow at various locations around the city.
The Ice Cool exhibition, in the atrium of the Daily Post and Echo building, is open between 10am and 7pm and all work, including paintings, sculptures and jewellery is for sale.
Its official launch earlier in the week attracted Icelandic ambassador Sverir Haukur Gunniaggsson, mike McCartney, and the lord Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr Paul Clark.
As well as promoting tourism to the Nordic island, ICE07 is an 800th birthday present to the city of Liverpool.
Other events still taking place over the weekend include photographic exhibitions by Ragnar Axeisson and Haldis Bennett along the Colonnades at the Albert Dock, and a special Icelandic menu at Room, on Castle Street, courtesy of guest chef Ragner Omarsson.
The Fact centre, on Wood Street, is showing cult comedy 101 Reykjavik tonight and music documentary Screaming Masterpiece tomorrow.
There is a special service at St.Nicola’s Church on The Strand at 2pm today.
Organisers hope ICE07 can be rolled out next year to incorporate all Scandinavian countries.
